Criminal Minds kicked off Season 11 without two key players from last year:

JJ is on maternity leave, though AJ Cook will eventually return to the series; while Kate Callahan has taken a break on her career to spend time with her family… just like the actress who portrayed her, Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Enter Aisha Tyler.

The very busy actress (she still co-hosts The Talk, she still voices Lana on Archer) made her debut on Criminal Minds Season 11 Episode 1 as Dr. Tara Lewis.

Hotch had planned on interviewing a number of candidates for the open BAU position, but he never got farther than Lewis, who came recommended by the San Francisco field office.

The psychologist wants to stop interviewing serial killers after they are convicted and start helping to catch them.

Her interview was actually cut short by developments in an ongoing case, which involves an UnSub who paints the faces of his victims.

We later learn his name  is Giuseppe Montolo and he’s a contract assassin who gets work via the Silk Road network within the Dark Net… and now he is now going after past clients.

As you might expect, Lewis ends up playing a key role in his capture.

She pretends to be the wife of a SWAT team leader who has been coerced to work with Giuseppe and she then saves the life of said SWAT team leader.

As the premieres winds comes to a conclusion, Derek confronts Giuseppe, who is hospitalized yet who still taunts that he and his hitman ilk will proceed to target “The Dirty Dozen.”

Meanwhile at the office, Hotch and Lewis resume their interview, though it’s clear Garcia is right: All other contenders can just go home at this point.
