Move over, Donald Trump. You are no longer the only celebrity running for office.

Former Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert announced on Monday that she’s seeking a a seat in the House of Representatives for Michigan’s 8th Congressional District.

The actress, best known for portraying Laura Ingalls on the aforementioned drama from 197-1983, has resided in Howell for over two years.

“Here in Michigan, I know people are doing their best to make a good life for themselves and their families,” Gilbert said in a statement. “When it comes down to it, I think that’s what we all really want.”

She then went on to explain her basis for wanting the vote of her constituents:

“I’m running for Congress to make life a little easier for all the families who feel they have fallen through the cracks in today’s economy.

“I believe building a new economy is a team effort, and we need to bring fresh voices to the table to get the job done.”

Gilbert – who is married to actor/director Timothy Busfield and who has two children – is running as a Democrat against Republican Mike Bishop.

How does he feel about his new competition?

“Melissa Gilbert can afford to have a stylist and a Louis Vuitton collar for her dog, but cannot pay her taxes,” Bishop has already told CNN of Gilbert owing over $300,00 to the government.

“Her Hollywood values are out of whack with the district.”
