Christopher Robert Evans (born June 13, 1981) is an American actor. He began his career with roles in television series such as Opposite Sex in 2000. Following appearances in several teen films, including Not Another Teen Movie (2001), he gained attention for his portrayal of Marvel Comics character the Human Torch in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). Evans is best known for his role as Steve Rogers/Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Early Life

Chris Evans was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in the nearby town of Sudbury. His mother, Lisa (née Capuano), is an artistic director at the Concord Youth Theater, and his father, G. Robert Evans III, is a dentist. Evans has two sisters, Carly and Shanna, and a brother, Scott, who is also an actor. He attended Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School and later moved to New York City to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.

Career

Evans’s first credited appearance was in a short educational film titled Biodiversity: Wild About Life! in 1997. In 1999, he was the model for “Tyler” in Hasbro’s board game Mystery Date. His early television work included roles in series such as Opposite Sex (2000) and guest appearances on shows like The Fugitive and Boston Public.

Evans’s breakthrough role came with his portrayal of Johnny Storm/Human Torch in Fantastic Four (2005) and its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). He gained further recognition for his role as Steve Rogers/Captain America in the MCU, starting with Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). He reprised the role in several MCU films, including The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

In addition to his work in superhero films, Evans has appeared in a variety of other genres. He starred in the romantic comedy What’s Your Number? (2011), the science fiction film Snowpiercer (2013), and the drama Gifted (2017). He also made his directorial debut with the romantic drama Before We Go (2014).

Personal Life

Evans is a follower of Buddhism and is known for his philanthropic efforts. He is a fan of the New England Patriots and has narrated documentary series about the team. Evans has been involved in various charitable activities and is an advocate for political and social causes.
