Kim Taehyung (born December 30, 1995), known professionally as V, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and actor. He is a member of the globally renowned boy band BTS (Bangtan Boys). V is known for his deep voice, charismatic stage presence, and contributions to the group’s music and performances.
Early Life and Background
Kim Taehyung was born in Daegu, South Korea, and grew up in Geochang County. He is the eldest of three children, with a younger brother and sister. V aspired to be a professional singer from a young age and began taking saxophone lessons in middle school with his father’s support. He eventually became a trainee for Big Hit Entertainment after passing an audition in Daegu. V graduated from Korean Arts High School in 2014 and later enrolled in Global Cyber University, where he graduated with a major in Broadcasting and Entertainment in 2020.
Career with BTS
V joined BTS in 2011 but was not revealed as a member until 2013. He made his official debut with BTS on June 13, 2013, with the release of their single album “2 Cool 4 Skool.” Since then, V has performed three solo songs under BTS’s name: “Stigma” (2016), “Singularity” (2018), and “Inner Child” (2020), all of which charted on South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart.
Solo Activities
In addition to his work with BTS, V has pursued solo activities. He made his acting debut in the 2016 television series “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth” and contributed the single “It’s Definitely You” to its soundtrack. V released his first independent song, the self-composed “Scenery,” in 2019. In 2023, he made his official debut as a solo artist with the release of the singles “Love Me Again” and “Rainy Days.” His debut solo album “Layover” was released on September 8, 2023, accompanied by the single “Slow Dancing”.
Personal Life
V is known for his unique personality and deep voice. He is a member of the “Wooga Squad,” a friendship group consisting of Park Seo-joon, Park Hyung-sik, Choi Woo-shik, and Peakboy. V is also friends with various other celebrities, including Park Bo-gum and EXO’s Baekhyun.
