Overview Jeremiah Smith (born November 29, 2005) is an American football wide receiver for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He has quickly become one of the most promising young talents in college football, known for his exceptional athleticism and playmaking abilities.
Early Life Smith was born in Miami Gardens, Florida, and grew up in Hollywood, Florida. He attended Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School, where he excelled in both football and track. During his high school career, Smith had 31 receptions for 667 yards and seven touchdowns in his sophomore season. As a junior, he caught 58 passes for 1,073 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also won the FHSAA Class 2A state championship in the 110 and 400-meter hurdles during his junior year.
College Career Smith committed to play college football at Ohio State University, choosing the Buckeyes over offers from several other top programs, including Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, and USC. He enrolled at Ohio State in January 2024 and quickly made an impact on the team.
In his college debut against the Akron Zips, Smith recorded six receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns, leading the team in yardage for that game. Throughout the 2024 season, he continued to impress, finishing with 63 receptions for 1,037 yards and 12 touchdowns. Smith was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week multiple times and earned several accolades, including Second-team All-American, Big Ten Receiver of the Year, First-team All-Big Ten, Freshman All-American, and Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
2024 Rose Bowl Performance Smith’s standout performance came during the 2024 Rose Bowl, where Ohio State faced the Oregon Ducks in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. Smith caught seven passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Buckeyes secure a dominant 41-21 victory. His performance set a Big Ten freshman receiving record and solidified his reputation as one of the top wide receivers in college football.
