Overview Sam Leavitt (born December 20, 2004) is an American football quarterback for the Arizona State Sun Devils. He previously played for the Michigan State Spartans before transferring to Arizona State. Leavitt has quickly established himself as a rising star in college football.
Early Life Leavitt was born in Portland, Oregon, and attended Westview High School in Washington County, Oregon, as a freshman and junior. He transferred to Pleasant Grove High School in Pleasant Grove, Utah, for his sophomore year and then to West Linn High School in West Linn, Oregon, for his senior year. During his senior year, Leavitt was named the Gatorade Football Player of the Year for Oregon after passing for 3,184 yards and 36 touchdowns.
College Career Leavitt began his college career at Michigan State University in 2023. In his lone season with the Spartans, he appeared in four games, completing 15 of 23 passes for 139 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. After the season, Leavitt entered the transfer portal and transferred to Arizona State University.
In his first year at Arizona State in 2024, Leavitt was named the starting quarterback. He led the Sun Devils to an impressive 11-3 record and a Big 12 championship. Leavitt completed 63.2% of his passes for 2,663 yards with 24 touchdowns and only five interceptions. He also rushed for 383 yards and five touchdowns, showcasing his dual-threat capabilities.
2024 Peach Bowl Performance Leavitt’s performance in the 2024 Peach Bowl was notable, despite the Sun Devils’ loss to Texas in double overtime. He played a key role in the team’s comeback attempt, but ultimately, Texas safety Andrew Mukuba intercepted Leavitt’s pass, sealing the victory for the Longhorns.
